Romantic Holiday Hideaway in Gaucín, Andalucía, Southern Spain

Special offers from Casa Mosaica
Casa Mosaica in spring
By the first week in March the wisteria was in full bloom in the garden at Casa Mosaica and attracting plenty of the big blue Carpenter bees and although I am not sure exactly when they first arrived, the house martins were already back, busily tidying up their nests at the front of the house on the 20th February...Spring comes early in Andalusia. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I have not entirely missed the jasmine officinale, the first of the jasmines as I adore the powerful scent and have just seen it called “The Poet’s Jasmine” on a website which seems to me a great name as I can imagine it might well inspire poetry. We had fabulously good weather in February and early March as you can see from the bluest of skies in these photos.
work on pool area and casita entrance As usual there are some works going on in preparation for the summer season.

The Casita just needed a quick coat of fresh white paint and the palm tree trimmed before the first guests arrived, while the swimming pool courtyard is getting a complete overhaul and a change of colour….more photos to come when I get back before Easter, meanwhile here is a taster!

Follow Casa Mosaica on Facebook or Instagram for more regular photos and updates (and pictures of cats!).

Lanas del Rio Some guests will have already discovered Lanas del Rio, or have read about it in my newsletters.

Paul Sutcliffe, a Yorkshire weaver, began the restoration of “Molino Taponero” this beautiful old steam mill down below Gaucin on the river Genal in 1994. 2 museum quality shuttle looms, were brought over from Yorkshire and re-assembled. The mill is no longer powered by steam but Paul and Dawn produce the most lovely high quality woven pieces which are for sale in their shop in the village just tucked behind the main road opposite the Convent. Opening times will be posted on the door each week, they will be open every day during the Art Gaucin weekends and I can highly recommend their wonderful blankets, which you may have noticed at CM in the cooler months and their lovely coloured scarves are wonderfully soft and make great gifts.

Last October when the Genal river flooded the Mill was inundated up to the first floor level. Apart from being very frightening for Paul and Dawn the looms and much of their stock were caught up in the floodwaters.

They have been working hard to restore the damage and are close to opening up the mill again to visitors, which is a lovely excursion down to the river. You can contact Paul & Dawn Sutcliffe and find out more through their website www.lanasdelrio.com.
